FIFA World U-20 and U-17 gets cancelled

Football cup scheduled for 2021 is just not going to happen.  FIFA World U-20 and U-17 get cancelled due to coronavirus pandemic.

FIFA men’s cup U-20 and U-17 postponed to 2023 says an official statement. In official statement FIFA bureau says that „Covid-19 pandemic continues to present challenges for the hosting of international sporting events and to have a restrictive effect on international travel.”

Indonesia should have been the host for Under 20, while Peru was the official Under 17 cup country. Although the cups are not happening this year FIFA council already decided to re-do them in 2023 as the hosts stay the same. 

As FIFA World U-20 and U-17 got cancelled the fans aren’t happy. Bureau of the FIFA council added that “it became clear that the global situation is failing to normalize to a sufficient level. To address the challenges associated with hosting both tournaments, including the feasibility of the relevant qualification pathways.”

FIFA world cup is just one of many cancelled sporting events in 2020. In early 2020 UEFA decided to postpone this year’s Euro cup to 2021. This pandemic filled year is very hard for all sports lovers. But 2021 is bringing us a year filled with high-class cups and sporting events. 

Although many fans are disappointed by FIFAs decision, they also had a surprise for women football fans. As the love for women football cup grows FIFA is expanding the number of teams to 32.

FIFA Women’s World Cup is going to happen in Australia and New Zealand in 2023. FIFA invited both hosts to play in friendly matches against the teams in Group 1 and Group 2. In that way, everyone is sure that teams play two matches during the playoff tournament.
