Gerard Houllier, ex Liverpool manager dead at 73 years old

Former Liverpool manager, Gerard Houllier (73) died after heart surgery in Paris. Through his winning career, he managed Aston Villa, the French national team, Paris Saint Germain…

French manager had a history of heart problems since 2001. Houllier had to go to the hospital during the Premier League between Liverpool and Leeds United 2001.

“So many wonderful times, bringing smiles back to people’s faces. We will never forget 2001. At the end of every conversation we had, I told him I loved him and would always be grateful for him RIP Boss.” – says one of the players.

After that Houllier made Liverpool climb to the top of the Premier League and got the Légion d’honneur award for services to French football.

Alex Ferguson said that he will miss him dearly. Aston Villa club statement said that the club is deeply saddened by the sudden death of Gerard Houllier.

In 2011, Houllier retired because of stress in football management. Soon after that, he became a sports director in Salzburg. And continued his rich career as the head of a study group during the World Cup in 2014.

Current Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp paid tribute in the name of the whole Liverpool team. He said that he didn’t know Houllier privately, but celebrates him for the success he had in football.
