Buffon is the greatest goalkeeper of all the time

Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is the greatest goalkeeper of all the time. He vas voted by his colleagues, among whom were Manuel Neuer and Peter Schmeichel.

Gianluigi Buffon was chosen as the best football goalkeeper of all time. Buffon is currently playing for Juventus and he is 42 years old.

In the Gazeta delo sport poll, the question of who is the best goalkeeper of all time was sent to 18 goalkeepers from 18 countries. 

Many of them couldn’t decide but named more than one goalkeeper. But Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon received the most votes. Total of seven. Now, Buffon is the greatest goalkeeper ever.

The second in the selection was the Russian goalkeeper Lav Yashin with five votes, while the Italian Dino Zof received two.

 Gordon Banks (England), Iker Casillas (Spain), Sepp Meyer (Germany), Ladislao Mazurkevich (Uruguay), Rogerio Seni (Brazil), Claudio Tafarel (Brazil) and Peter Schmeichel (Denmark) received one vote each. 

“Gigi is amazing! I’ve always looked up to him, not only on the field where he has phenomenal reflexes but also because of his off-field character,” said Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who voted for Buffon and Yashin. 

Russian goalkeeper Vyacheslav Malafeyev also voted for Buffon. 

“Gigi is superior and still plays at the age of 42. He is a timeless football icon like you have in a movie or in music,” he said.
